In recent years, the word “lifestyle” has begun to appear everywhere.
If you have an Instagram account, I’m sure you’ve seen lifestyle posts from time to time. The pretty travel, food and style pictures, for example.
But “lifestyle” can actually mean many different things, ranging from travel, healthy living, organization, to style and relationships and even more.
More and more lifestyle consultants are making a good living off of their services and products.
So how do you become a lifestyle consultant and how do you start a lifestyle consulting business?
There are several steps to take to become a lifestyle consultant. The good thing is that none of these steps involve getting a degree or opening up an office, unless you want to, of course. (Yay for virtual consulting!)
So these steps don’t need to take very long to do if you want to become a lifestyle consultant quickly.
10 Steps To Becoming A Lifestyle Consultant
1. Decide on your lifestyle niche
Lifestyle consulting is a very broad niche. So the first important thing to becoming a lifestyle consultant is to decide on the focus of your business.
Do you want to provide consulting around travel tips?
Is health and fitness your thing?
Do you want to help people with their personal style?
Or what about helping moms be more organized at home?
You’ll want to pick a focus that applies to your experience, passion and education.
You probably already know what it’s going to be for you.
Additionally, I’d like to advise you not to try to be too broad initially, as it will be tough to establish yourself as an expert that way.
If your topic is healthy living for women over 40, stick with that as much as possible throughout your content creation and marketing.
Step 3 will help you get even more clear on your niche as well.
2. Establish your target market
Who do you want to consult for?
What group of people will benefit from your lifestyle consulting services?
A good way to establish your target market is to figure out who you naturally have given advice or help to in the past without much thought.
However, it’s also important to set your expectations as it pertains to your consulting prices.
If you are expecting to charge higher prices, you would naturally not target college students.
If you are looking to becoming a fulltime lifestyle consultant, find a target market that needs and wants what you have to offer but are also able to pay for your services.
Later down the road, you have the possibility to create courses that benefit all age-groups and these can be very affordable.
3. Find 3 people that are doing what you want to do
There are a good amount of lifestyle coaches out there.
Once you’ve decided on your niche, find 3 consultants that are doing what you want to be doing on a larger scale.
This is not so you can imitate them, rather to model their process and get ideas. This will help you stay on track and also be more aware of what people want.
Study them thoroughly and research how they monetize and present their packages, etc.
4. Set up a website
Now, I understand that setting up a website can seem truly overwhelming to a lot of people.
But when I say website, I mean the most basic 3-page website that you can think of.
It doesn’t need to look amazing right now.
You want to buy a domain name, set up WordPress, get a logo and start posting content.
That’s pretty much it. Don’t overthink your website too much at first. You can always improve it later on.
5. Open up a business bank account and LLC
You can do this in an afternoon. Just head to your bank and request to open a business account.
You will need some information in order to open up a business account, including business registration.

6. Brand your social platforms
I probably don’t need to tell you how great social media platforms can be to help you spread your message and get clients.
Lifestyle pictures and posts are very famous on platforms like Instagram.
Now, the most important thing for you to do when you are just starting as a lifestyle consultant is to make sure that all of your platforms have a consistent look to them. For now, only pick 1-2 platforms to focus on.
Here are the steps to branding your social platforms:
– Get good photography for your profile pictures
– Update what you do in the bio or intro of your page
– Start to post regularly, offering insights, tips and value
– Target people in your target niche as much as you can
Social media tip: When it comes to social media it’s very important not to spend too much time just reading the newsfeed and checking for updates.
This will be a distraction to you. Try and not compare yourself with people that have been in the game longer than you.
7. Create your consulting packages
After having conducted your research to see what other lifestyle consultants are doing, it’s time for you to establish your packages and programs. You also want to set a price for your services.
In order to create packages, you will need to set the time frame, what your client will be getting from you and how much they will be paying you.
Starting out with a program that lasts anywhere from 6-12 weeks is probably a good idea at the beginning.
As time goes on, you have the option to create courses which we will talk about more later on.
8. Create epic content that people are searching for
When I say create content that people are searching for, I mean doing the research to understand what questions people have regarding your consulting niche.
One of the best ways to do this is to go to google and start typing in questions related to what you do.
What are people asking?
What are the suggested search terms?
Or what does Google auto-fill your sentences with?
Find the questions that people are asking and start to post on your website and also on social media.
9. Begin the client acquisition process (digital prospecting and advertising campaigns)
If you want to start getting paid quickly as a lifestyle consultant you’re going to need to start talking to people about what you do.
If you don’t have extra money to spend in advertising campaigns, I recommend reaching out to people in your social media communities and groups.
I’m not talking about spam.
I am talking about real and genuine conversations.
Also, make sure to engage the people that are reading your blog posts and frequently engaging on your content.
The more people you contact each day, the faster you’ll be working with clients.
The best way to do this is to invite a potential prospect on a call with you.
Don’t sell them directly into your programs in a direct message.
Instead, give them 30 minutes of your time to see if there is really a way you can help them and also to build some trust.
Additionally, if you have some extra money, I’d recommend running social media campaigns that will attract your clients to book a call with you so you can get clients that way.
10. Create courses for automation
If you don’t want to be working one-on-one with people forever, I’d recommend to start creating some courses that people can buy for a lower price.
This is ideal if you have a large following already, or your followers are very engaged.
The way to do this is to put your knowledge and information in a course format so that people all over the world can easily purchase it and get your assistance, while you get paid.
If you follow those ten steps, you’ll be well on your way to making a living from being a lifestyle consultant.
The most important thing is that you get started.
There are a lot of great consultants out there that are not reaching the amount of people they could be, because they procrastinate too much.
Things will never be quite perfect.
So just get started quickly and improve along the way.
