A weight loss consultant is somebody who advises clients on weight loss and healthy living.
There are many different terms for this profession these days. Some people call it Health Coach, Wellness Consultant, Fitness and Health Coach, and others.
However, a weight loss consultant is more specifically geared towards helping clients lose weight. Hence the term, “weight loss”.
Maybe you’ve recently lost a lot of weight and adopted a healthier lifestyle that you enjoy sharing with your friends and family. You understand what has worked for you and would love to pass it on. Or maybe you’ve been the “go-to” person in your circles for a long time as it relates to losing weight and dieting.
And perhaps you have a degree in the wellness field and are now ready to start getting paid for giving advice to people on how to lose weight.
The good news is, it doesn’t need to take a long time to get started as a weight loss consultant.
So how do you become a weight loss consultant?
Below are the steps on how you can start getting paid clients in just 7 days. It will take dedication and work to get it all done in 7 days but it is possible if you are in a hurry to get started.
Are you ready?
Day 1: Do the research - clarify who you want to work (aka, your niche)
Before you decide what your niche is going to be, it’s very important that you do a little bit of research.
This research will not only help you pick a great niche but it will also make sure that there is a need and an open market for what you do.
There are several ways to do research. One of the best ways you can do it is to use Google. Start by typing in your main weight loss consulting focus.
Who have you thought about helping?
Do you want to work with Diabetics?
Or maybe you prefer working with women going through menopause.
Whatever it is for you, type that into Google and then start to research all of the questions people have asked regarding weight loss.
You can also use the “suggested search” feature at the bottom of Google and the Autofill option.
Another way to research is to go to forums and facebook groups to ask questions and to see what people are talking about. Once you’ve got a pretty good idea of what that is, you can start to study the competition.
Who is already doing what you want to do?
Find 3 people that are already working in the weight loss consulting field. Find out everything you can about them. This is not so you can copy them but rather so you can use them as a model.
What are their price points and what are the packages that they are selling?
In as much as you can, take note of what these people are doing and find ways to incorporate similar methods into your new consulting business.
Because they have already figured out what works. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel if somebody is already doing something great.
Day 2: Create your programs and establish price points
If you are considering becoming a weight loss consultant, you already have a good idea of what your programs should be.
But it’s a good idea to map it out and get it on paper.
How long will your program be? 6 weeks? 12 weeks?
What will your client be getting from you?
What is the goal of your program?
How will the client feel at the end of your program?
How often do you meet with your client?
What are your prices going to be?
All of these questions are important to have answered before setting about to get your first weight loss consulting clients.
However, don’t over-plan and write out every detail of your program.
In my experience, a lot of new consultants fail to take action because they are overly concerned about the delivery of the content. In coaching and consulting, every client is different and therefore you need some flexibility to be able to work around the specific needs of a client.
Day 3: Brand your social media platforms and start talking about what you do
There’s no faster way to start to gain a following than to use social media to brand yourself.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to take long or be difficult.
Choose a theme of your weight loss consulting business and then use that theme on all of your platforms so that your brand is consistent everywhere.
When people see you, they need to know instantly what you do and who you help.
Social media is a great place to get attention.
Begin by posting questions and pieces of content that your ideal target market would find useful and helpful.
Be consistent and frequent on social media. Your goal is to get people to start to see you as a weight loss consultant.
Getting people to engage with you is also a great way to initiate conversations. These conversations can be continued on privately and will often lead to a free consultation or strategy call.
Day 4: Create an epic piece of content and start to share it with people
The research you did, in the beginning, is going to help you understand what piece of content to write, or make a video of.
It is important that the content you create answers a question that people are asking.
You want to craft the most helpful piece of content you’ve seen out there. If your ideal target market is struggling with high blood pressure, for example, create a helpful visual aid that individuals can keep with them when they feel stressed.
Or maybe you want to record a great video with slides.
Another idea is to create a blog post with pictures and info graphs that people find engaging and helpful.
Take your time on crafting this piece of content.
Once you’ve completed it, start to share it with people. You can start by sending it to contacts in your social media connection lists.
If you have an email list, send it to them as well. Look for people to share it with.
Day 5: Start to have conversations with people and invite them on a call
Sending out your awesome piece of carefully curated content is going to strike up some great conversations!
You will use the data you get from sending out your content tomorrow for another purpose.
But today, begin to talk to people about your piece of content.
This will cause you to book a couple of consultation calls and, perhaps, land you your first weight loss consultation client!
When talking to people, make sure you are adding a lot of value. Keep the conversations around them and focus on talking about how the content you created is relevant to them.
Day 6: Set up a FB ads campaign with the information
In addition to talking to people in a one-on-one scenario, Facebook will be able to create a look-alike audience for you that will help you create a group of people that will be in your target market.
You will need to go to your business manager page on Facebook to create these ads.
There is a little bit of a learning curve involved with getting ads set up but it’s not that complicated.
In fact, there’s a simple way to do it that you can learn more about here.
If you start out right, you’ll save yourself a lot of money and time trying to figure out how to make ads work for you.
Facebook ads are great because it will allow you to market your services to people that are already looking for what you do.
Day 7: Sell your services
It’s day 7! If you followed along with the steps every day, you have worked hard to get to the end. Well, really it’s just the beginning.
Of course, you’ll need to optimize your Facebook ads and keep talking to people and posting on social media every day.
However, you’re ready to sell your services. If you’ve been reaching out to people with your epic piece of content, you are probably already booking some appointments. On these appointments, you will add value and then, if you feel like you can help this person, your goal will be to enroll them into your program.
Congratulations! You’ve just become a paid weight loss consultant in 7 days.
If you need additional help on setting up a consulting business, you really need to check out this article. It’s very thorough and will tell you exactly how to do each of the steps mentioned above.
1. What qualifications do I need to become a weight loss consultant?
Currently, there are no educational requirements to be a weight loss consultant. However, many new consultants and coaches prefer getting a certification and some education before getting started.
If you are confident that you can help people get from where they are at to where they want to go, you don’t need a certification.
What’s important is your knowledge and experience in the topic. I’ve seen a lot of people put off getting started because they feel they need a certification. Focus on getting results and your business will thrive.
2. What do I need to become an online weight loss consultant?
Weight loss consulting online has become really popular in recent years.
The only difference between weight loss in person and weight loss consulting online is the internet.
Using the internet requires just a little bit of technology skills. But if you want freedom of time and the ability to work from home, online consulting can definitely work for you. The principles are the same.
